Cocktail du jour: The Bitter American

I can promise every cocktail on this blog is something I've had and loved. Mr. C&G and I have very different tastes but I always try whatever he's made in order to write about it (tough job, I know) and there are very few cocktails I won't drink. This one, however, is not my kind of beverage but I think it's incredibly interesting and given the right mood I could enjoy it.

Campari is not my thing, I prefer the sweeter tasting Aperol over the more bitter Italian apéritif. But mix it with bourbon and the citrusy Cocchi Americano and the bite mellows a bit, making it something I might drink if someone put it in front of me. It's been a harsh and bitter winter for most of us so I think I'll have Mr. C&G make one up for me and it will be a fitting way to toast the end of miserable March.

The Bitter American

1 oz bourbon (Bulleit)
1 oz Campari
1 oz Cocchi Americano

Stir all ingredients in a mixing glass filled with ice
Strain into a rocks glass and serve up or over ice
